Welcome to EagleSoaringHigher.com! I decided I want to dive into the world of blogging again. I plan on writing and sharing thoughts about many subjects including: Blogging TipsBudgeting and Personal Finance, Dave Ramsey, DebtFrugal Living, Goal Setting, Investments, Kids & MoneyMaking Money, The Millionaire Next Door, Stewardship & the Bible, The No Spend Challenge, and Tips to Save Money.

I will try to post as often as possible. I’m going to start out though in July with daily The No Spend Challenge posts. I’m thinking of posting starting in August on Mondays and Friday’s primarily personal finance articles related to the subjects above. Tuesdays will be blog improvement related posts.

I’ll also be posting quotes every other day on the Facbeook page for motivation.

So, let’s get to it.

Who am I?

I’m so glad you asked!

My name is Jonathan and I currently live in Fort Worth, Tx. I grew up in Brazil and came to the U.S. when I was 18. I went to college at Ouachita Baptist University where I graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. I then pursued my Masters in Business Administration in 2005 and graduated in 2009. I’m thankful I was able to pursue my education without taking on any debt and paying as I went. I am currently 33 and am happily married to my beautiful wife of about 5.5 years. We have two wonderful little ones. I work for a contractor buying specialized tools. I’m very passionate about personal finance and helping people find financial freedom!

Background and Where We Find Ourselves

We took Financial Peace University in 2010 listening to the CD’s and then again in 2011 in a group setting. We became debt free in 2012 and began saving up for the purchase on a house. In January 2013 we bought our family van cash! In October 2013 we moved into our new house.

We are currently working on saving 15% for retirement, saving towards the kids college, and our primary focus is paying off our mortgage. We are living like no one else so one day we can live and give like noone else!

A Fun Moment

We like to have fun as much as possible. Here’s a fun date night we had downtown Forth Worth this year for our anniversary.

Facebook Groups

On top of my job, I’m heavily involved in servant leadership in the role of creator or administrator of multiple Facebook groups – we call them the Financial Freedom Family of groups. These include Dave Ramsey – Financial Freedom, The No Spend Challenge, Dave Ramsey – Total Money Makeover, and Book Worms – Book Club. I’ve also helped with Making Cents to Financial Peace which is started by another admin on my team. I must say either through providence or chance I have been very blessed to work closely with a team of about 50 people who help in administration, development of discussion questions, and support roles in budgeting help.

Financial Freedom

Dave Ramsey – Financial Freedom – people on the journey to freedom, general questions, typically have read TMM or taken FPU, etc.

the no spend challenge

The No Spend Challenge – people who want to challenge themselves to not spend or do another challenge for that month.

Total Money Makeover

Dave Ramsey – Total Money Makeover – people following or interested in the Total Money Makeover book and 7 baby steps to financial peace.

Giving Back to the Local Community

I’m giving back to my local community by facilitating or teaching Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Financial Peace University is a 9 week small group class that teaches people how to win with money, save for emergencies, get on a budget, and handle money as good stewards God’s way. We took the course in 2010 and then again in 2011. We have personally been very blessed by Dave Ramsey’s teachings and would recommend the course to anyone wanting to no longer live paycheck to paycheck, get out of debt, become better stewards, and learn to live and give like no one else!

So, there it is. Now you know a little about us and the plan for this website. I look forward to learning and growing with you on this journey to Financial Freedom!

  2. I’ve heard a lot about Dave Ramsey – and that’s great about the ‘No spend challenge’ we put ourselves on that for months at a time

Nice to meet you and know a bit about what you do 🙂

  3. Pleased to meet you, Jonathan. What a lovely family. You are one busy man, but God is with you and your ministry. You’ve already been a blessing to me.

    • Thanks for taking the time to check the website out Pamela! Thank you for the the kind words about my family. I’m very fond of them too. I do stay rather busy. This is the 2nd time around with a blog so I have a ton of content to share. Just need to pace myself I guess.

  4. THis is really inspiring what you are doing and writing about. Financial freedom, no spending group and all that. These are things people worry about and creating a support group in order to cut down on expenses and live frugally, this is really something of interest. Keep it up.
